What is Pound Fitness ?

If you’ve dreamed of channeling your inner rock star into a fitness plan, it’s time to POUND. Created by two female drummers, the pound workout fuses cardio interval training with drumming to provide a challenging and heart-pumping workout. After taking classes at my local Crunch gym, I’m hooked! Anyone who thrives off the group fitness environment or needs loud music to stay motivated needs try this class ASAP. It moves fast: From start to finish, lively, heart-pumping movements and upbeat tunes keep the workout feeling fresh. There’s no holding an uncomfortable pose for an extended period of time; the class is always moving, always changing, and always pushing the body to its limits. Time seems to fly so quickly! It moves from warm-up to cool down in just 45 minutes. It’s a full-body workout: While certain group fitness classes tend to target particular areas of the body, POUND offers a full-body workout and targets common trouble spots. A huge part of the class is performed in a squat position. The constant up-and-down drumming targets your inner and outer thighs, butt, and core. And those drumsticks aren’t just for show; at one-fourth pound per stick and a little shorter than the standard length, they’re perfectly designed to maximize your arm workout. You’ll blow off steam: After a long day, there aren’t a few things as exhilarating than grabbing a pair of drumsticks and being able to POUND out your stress. Whether you’re sitting down doing mat work or up on your feet jumping to a new track, everything seems more tolerable — and more fun! — When you’re banging on the floor with a pair of neon green drumsticks.

SHE Fitness launched the first ever pound fitness program in the Maldives on 28th of October in 2016, at Villa College and more than 150 participants participated in this event; making it a success. The event was covered by local media and Youth TV.

The creators Kirsten Potenza and Cristina Pereenboom joined forces to create Pound Fit; both stemming from a less healthy place and who truly believe that exercise could speed up their recovery. This workout can be adapted to those with limited mobility, which is extremely beneficial. ‘Full-body WorkoutPound fit’ is similar to pilates in the way that they both work the upper and lower body, tone, and also works the back and core. A Fun yet diverse workout – It’s a combination of pilates, cardio, drumming, and light resistance. Working out isn’t fun for everyone, so Pound Fit offers a variety of different workout techniques to keep you going.  The diversity this workout offers makes it mentally and physically challenging keeping you on your toes! What makes Pound Fit unique is that it is highly motivating in the way drummers beat and you can experience many different genres of music. This kind of workout can boost your memory skills.

SHE was established in the year 2015 as a Lesmills club – one of the few Lesmills Licensed clubs in the Maldives, offering comprehensive facilities for a variety of exercise and wellness programs of International repute including two exercise studios.
