There are millions of hardworking people out there, but still can’t afford to pay a large sum of cash at once. The most common method of doing it is by using a credit card, and for those who have a history of paying their debts late or are just starting out, it’s not an alternative. But, then again, what if I told you I may know a solution for that?
The micro-loaning industry took a giant leap when Airfordable, a Chicago-based startup website launched its services in December 2015 allowing its users to pay for flight tickets on installments. The process is quite simple: The traveler has to select a flight itinerary and upload a screenshot of it, then pay a deposit of one-third of the total cost, and pay the balance in monthly or biweekly installments until the loan is fully settled, finally Airfordable confirms the flight ticket and e-mails it to the traveler.

Book your flight tickets by paying nearly one-third of the total cost and pay the remaining balance in installments before your departure date. Airfordable also charges a service fee ranging from 10 to 20 percent based on the total cost of the airfare and prepares a repayment plan. A $295 ticket needed on August 2, 2018, for example, would incur a $112.10 “layaway cost” and then $65.42 each month (April, May and June) through the date of travel. - Receive your e-ticket through e-mail after the final payment is completed.
Unlike getting a loan from a bank or using a credit card, a micro loan from Airfordable does not require a check into one’s bank statement or credit score, a possible deal-breaker for travelers with bad credit. At present, Airfordable allows a maximum airfare of $2,000 per person, and the minimum at $200. Tickets should be purchased no more than 11—and not less than two months in advance in order to allow sufficient time for users to pay. In the event a traveler fails to complete his/her repayment plan, the flight booking will be canceled and the amount paid to Airfordable will be credited towards future trips.
